Furniture Built From Their Lumber
Our clients were forward-thinking when they built their new custom forever home. Two great Red Oak trees were on their property, and a local sawyer milled and helped dry lumber from their site.
They knew they wanted to make beautiful furniture with this lumber, which is where MM Wood Studio stepped in. In conjunction with our design partner, Carolina Jasmine, we designed and built two unique pieces of furniture.
Dining Table
Our client’s dining room is square in size with beautiful bay windows overlooking the other. A round dining table would take the best advantage of the space, and only a few seats would not have a view of the ocean. At 72 inches round, this table easily sits 6 and more if wanted. To support such a large table, a strong base is needed, but also one that allows plenty of leg-room.
To accomplish this, we turned to two “X’s” intersecting in the middle. This design allows for the distribution of weight across four areas and, at only 2 inches thick, plenty of legroom. An undercarriage was also created to provide additional racking support and a point to affix the table to the base.
To finish the table, we also built a 2-foot-wide Lazy Susan out of contrasting Ash.
Hall Table
This custom-sized table is just off the garage entryway and is built to fit the length and depth of the nook it occupies. The legs are splayed at 2 degrees, giving it an “A” shape in appearance. The wider lower section gives the table better stability, while the smaller upper section matches a faux-live-edge top.
